Solid Taiwanese place with some great dishes and some Americanized ones too.
Got some clam dish that was too much corn starch (shiny shiny!).
There was a pork and bean curd dish with surprising good addition of celery that was delicious.
The squid dish looked and tasted fake (the squid looked like it was from a frozen bag I can buy at the grocery) way too much thick sauce
The fried pork dish my husband liked as it reminded him of his childhood.
The chicken soup was delicious.
But the best part was the mango shaved ice... perfect melt in your mouth consistency and not too sweet either.. great!! That makes it -

My boyfriend brought me here last week for the first time and I was pleasantly surprised!
The restaurant was in an unassuming location with a tiny parking lot, but was packed with lots of people and the aroma of sizzling dishes wafting through the air of the homey taiwanese restaurant~
Two of us shared three cup tofu, green beans, sizzling chicken, and steamed rice. We are pretty decent eaters, but had more than plenty leftovers for each of us! Everything was delicious although salty, which definitely warrants a boba trip after
In my experience at Chinese/Taiwanese restaurants, communication can sometimes be a challenge but the workers here are strong English speakers and were also very helpful and attentive!
There were a lot of interesting dishes on the menu I haven't seen at many restaurants before which I would really like to try, namely the bitter melon with salted egg. -

Food is just way way to salty.
Ordered 3 dishes including fried noodle, everything is just too salty that you cannot swallow. Even kids who like salty food did not like the food.
Please use less salty and be more health conscious -

Found my way here since Red Hot Wok has over 1100 reviews and I'm always craving some good Taiwanese food. We may have ordered the wrong things because I was not impressed.
Three cup chicken with bones:
There were a lot of bone pieces and there were more bones than meat for sure. The bones give the sauce a good flavor when it's reduced, but there were just a lot of bone particles hidden in the basil to parse through in order to get to the meat. I guess it's not meant to eat the basil because the bone pieces are just tangled inside. Aside from too many bones, the chicken is indeed tasty.
Sizzling Beef Plate:
They do take the order before you sit, so this was probably prepared in advance because the dish was not sizzling when it came to the table. The flavors of black pepper were nice and beef was juicy, but it wasn't exceptional. It was still my favorite thing we ordered because the sauce was tasty and I used it on top of rice.
Moon Shape Shrimp Cake:
Felt nothing for this. The crispy outer shell was good, but the shrimp filling was not tasty and the sweet and sour sauce is from the bottle. I used the dip, but it was just like eating a tasteless shrimp ball with sweet and sour sauce.
My expectations may be too high because I've been to Taiwan and had amazing food there. However, without comparing, I had high expectations due to the high rating on Yelp, the line outside, and the long wait time. The redeeming quality was the interior decor, the service, and the 5% off when paying with cash. The interior bench seating brought me back to Taiwan. It's also very good that you can place the order before sitting.
I'll have to try the braised pork rice to get a better feel for this place next time! -

2.5 stars for the food, rounded up for good service.
Had this place bookmarked for awhile..not the biggest fan of Taiwanese food and not too familiar with it so didn't really have the urge to drive all the way to Cupertino. But we wanted to try something "different" and "new" for us so we finally made the trek over there.
Driving up, it looked like an old school chinese spot with extremely faded dangling red lanterns and orange painted walls. There was a flimsy bamboo picnic table with a check-in waitlist clipboard to sign yourself in. Inside it was kinda run down and it was alllll red -red walls, more red lanterns but they looked like the ones you see in those old school chinese imperial movies. The tables were picnic style..wooden and dark. Their decor consisted of polaroids of other diners, Taiwan beer posters, empty Taiwan beer bottles and inflatable bottles of nothing other than Taiwan beer. Made me wonder if this was a drinking establishment? Is this type of food like bar food? No idea whatsoever.. because there were a good amount of families with their little kids eating as well.
We came around 6:50pm on a Sunday and were able to find parking right away. Red Hot Wok shares a small parking lot with Sizzling Gourmet but there's ample street parking as well as another parking lot right across the street. We were seated in less than 15 minutes.
We were checking out the menu while we were waiting outside so right when we got seated and they brought out our water, I was able to order right away..
MOON SHAPE SHRIMP CAKE $12.95 -crispy edges with soft shrimp interior. The sweet & sour sauce was your basic kind out of bottle. Overall, best item we ordered.
SIZZLING BEEF WITH BLACK PEPPER SAUCE $14.95 -came out sizzling.. Had bits of chopped, tender beef, bell peppers and baby corn. Flavor wise, okay..nothing special.
THREE CUPS SQUID $14.95 -came in a clay pot. It had whole stuffed squid, tons of basil leaves and large ginger slices. It was on the sweeter side, kinda herby too. What I really didn't like was that they leave the spine of the squid inside. So every first bite of squid, you pull out a clear thin spine with your teeth. Eh. Off-putting.
COMBINATION FRIED NOODLE $12.95 -shrimp, pork, beef and veggies stir fried with noodles. Looks good, tasted okay, could use some more flavor.
We also ordered 1 bowl of steamed rice and that wasn't even good..it was like American style rice, all mushy too.
Good, friendly service but food wise..we weren't fans. It wasn't horrible.. but just not our type of food. Expensive too.. At least we got to try it, crossing it off my list now!
$25 minimum for credit card use. Only can use one card per table. If you pay with cash it's 5% off.
